Generally Controller is the best way to play Forza titles but the Wheel is definitely usable in FH5. Simulation Steering is recommended for Wheels and the main thing to do is just to practice, the jump from Controller to Wheel is pretty big and it can take a few weeks to get comfortable and back to your normal pace.
I just got a G923 to play in Forza 7 and I can't control the cars worth @#$%. I just understeer into a barrier constantly. I've tried a few of the advanced settings but doesn't seem to help. Also, I played Horizon 4 which seems to support the wheel and the cars there are much more controllable. coreytrevor.

I found that 360° feels a little too sensitive and unnatural. 540° feels more natural, but can feel unresponsive in the center of the wheel. 480° ends up being a good compromise. Spring is used by Need For Speed Heat for the Wheel Spring Force setting. Damper is used by Need For Speed Heat for the Wheel Damper Force setting.
These settings made all the cars in my garage feel much more nimble overall. I know Turn 10's reasoning behind why the default values are the way they are, but I also think some of the more experienced drivers are putting themselves at a disadvantage if they don't experiment with these settings. On a side note I also have Forza Horizon.
